Medical Aid & Shortfalls Explained: Your Guide to Affordable Care at Klarity
One of the most common questions our reception team receives is: "Do you accept Medical Aid?"
At Klarity Medical Group, we understand that healthcare
can be expensive. That is why we strive to make our services accessible to as
many Zimbabweans as possible by partnering with the country’s leading
healthcare funders.
Whether you are visiting our Strathaven Dental Clinic
for a check-up or our Harare Street branch for an
ultrasound scan, all clarity medical group branches accept all major Medical
Aids. Here is everything you need to know about using your medical aid card
with us.
Which Medical Aids Do We Accept?
We are proud to accept a wide range of medical aid societies. If you are a member of any of the following, you can access our services (subject to your specific plan's limits):
What is a "Shortfall" and When Do I Pay It?
A "shortfall" (or co-payment) is the difference between the
fee charged by the service provider ( Klarity Medical ) and the amount your medical aid
society agrees to pay for that service.
While we try to minimize costs, shortfalls may occur in the following
scenarios:
Scenario 1: Dental Limits (Dental Ceilings)
Dental procedures often have strict annual limits.
·
Example: You visit our Albion & Cameroon Street Dental Branch for a Root
Canal. If your medical aid plan has a limit of $200 for dentistry per year, and
you have already used $150, the medical aid will only pay the remaining $50.
You would need to pay the balance (shortfall) in cash or USD.
Scenario 2: Specialized Scans vs. Plan Type
Not all plans cover advanced diagnostics.
·
Example: You visit 136 Harare Street for a 4D Obstetric Scan or
a specialized Doppler Scan. If you are on a "General" or
"Basic" medical aid package, the funder might only cover standard 2D
scans. In this case, a shortfall would be required to cover the difference for
the advanced technology.
Scenario 3: Exhausted Funds
Towards the end of the year, many patients exhaust their "Global
Limit." If your funds are depleted, the medical aid will decline the
transaction, and the service will need to be paid for in cash.
